Little Pink Houses

At last, we have a house! Dusty made it safely to Kumasi on Tuesday, and immediately set out to see this place Wednesday morning.

Our friend, Owusu, has been tirelessly scouring the greater Kumasi metro area for houses we could rent for our stay, and he couldn’t wait for Dusty to see this one.

Dusty was sold on it as well, and we now have a place to call home for the next several months. It may not be little, but it is most definitely pink!

Meanwhile, back at the Lansing homestead…

...HEAVY SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST FRIDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAND RAPIDS HAS ISSUED A HEAVY SNOW WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST FRIDAY. THIS IS AN UPGRADE OF THE WINTER STORM WATCH.
SNOW WILL DEVELOP THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY. THE SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES AND WILL ACCUMULATE 8 TO 12 INCHES BY FRIDAY NIGHT. VISIBILITIES WILL FREQUENTLY BE BELOW A MILE WHICH WILL MAKE FOR HAZARDOUS TRAVEL.

I especially like the part where it says this is an “upgrade” of the winter storm watch. Just further proves my theory that upgrade does not necessarily equal improvement.

Elliot’s new favorite word is shovel. Think we’ll get to try that out this weekend??

Welcome!

Welcome to our Ghana adventure! Follow along while we travel to Kumasi for several months in 2008 for Dusty to complete his dissertation fieldwork. Dusty (Ph.D. candidate in the Anthropology Department at Michigan State University) departs in two weeks, and Elliot (our toddler son) and I (Veronica, on a leave of absence from my position with the Michigan Senate) will follow a few weeks later in February.

We're nervous about what we're in for, sad to be leaving our family and friends for such a long time and definitely excited about the adventure we're about to experience! We hope you will join us on our journey, so please check back often for updates and drop us a line.
